Peer Stack v Web Sack an introduction

The web stack drives website innovation. Not only that, the web stack has allowed anyone the opportunity to build a website using open source software. Complex sites took hundreds of developers to run the hardware and to process the data to code the user experience. Today, with a LAMP stack and web frameworks means a single developer can do it all. And all at very low cost. The capability and complexity of sites grows everyday.

The Peer Stack. Why do we need a new innovation path for websites when the web stack delivers so much? The foundations of the web stack has been build on a server paradigm for computing. We need to build a peer to peer infrastructure that bring developers the ease of setup, installation and use to empower peers with information. Web stack websites can aggregate data from many sites, a search engine ‘reads’ the whole web and sites make use of many third party services from sign-in to payments processing. Again why the need for a Peer Stack when data aggregation also is covered by the web stack? The big difference is that all these services are owned and controlled by third parties. The Peer Stack connects networks that aggregate information from peers that have sovereignty over their data lies and networks providing data services are owned by networks of peers.

The Peer Stack requires and demand much high degree of coordination between those developing and contributing to a peers learning experience or website. We will write more on how these demands can be addressed in follow up posts.
