At a local hackathon called CodetheCity a proof of concept Bioregion Dashboard was built.
The goal: to build an evidence base on all the nature in the River Dee watershed i.e. bioregion. The team focused on bird biodiversity over the decades and the rainfall patterns mapped to the river flow. The concept is to build an evidence story of many separate data science projects for each individual part of the watershed and then produce combined analysis or insight on trends etc. that can be shared by local communities, citizen assemblies etc. The data being there to help establish a culture of evidence based decision making the on future health of the bioregion e.g. what impact would bringing back beavers to the watershed have on bird biodiversity?
Building on the Peer Stack think out. What is a Peer Learning Experience and how does this compare to the Web User Experience.
The web or websites continue to advance in there capabilities and the tools to make these experiences are also innovating all the time. User V Peer. Server V PeerLink. There are no users in the peer learning experience, only networks of peers (somehow) coordinating their contributions (probably mostly unknowingly) to make a collaborative learning experience.
Lets set the context of aggregating information e.g. a news website say BBC.co.uk A web user experience. That organization has journalist authoring the news in different media, hierarchy on decision making and developers to organize the selection of content and permission on who can author. Content will come in from partnership or from fair use of third parities. …
With the possibility of sharing data peer to peer nears then the goal of decentralised machine learning comes within reach. This would be an example of a cold network, or a machine to machine connection if the peers select automatic protocol rules. A warm peer to peer network is when two or more peer ‘get to know’ each other to such a degree that the peers share public keys and explicitly engage in data sharing or allow machine learning on their terms. The most basic case that is implement is when the network library is replicated by two peers. An option will be presented to allow for automatic library updates from any peer on the network, this would become a cold connection.
The web stack drives website innovation. Not only that, the web stack has allowed anyone the opportunity to build a website using open source software. Complex sites took hundreds of developers to run the hardware and to process the data to code the user experience. Today, with a LAMP stack and web frameworks means a single developer can do it all. And all at very low cost. The capability and complexity of sites grows everyday.
The Peer Stack. Why do we need a new innovation path for websites when the web stack delivers so much? The foundations of the web stack has been build on a server paradigm for computing. We need to build a peer to peer infrastructure that bring developers the ease of setup, installation and use to empower peers with information. Web stack websites can aggregate data from many sites, a search engine ‘reads’ the whole web and sites make use of many third party services from sign-in to payments processing. Again why the need for a Peer Stack when data aggregation also is covered by the web stack? The big difference is that all these services are owned and controlled by third parties. The Peer Stack connects networks that aggregate information from peers that have sovereignty over their data lies and networks providing data services are owned by networks of peers. …
With the network library operational the next stage was to upgrade the Toolkit and safeFlow — entity component system flows and knowledge bundle ledger. Getting there with that, charts are back, using data from Mii Band 3 wearable via gadgetbridge.org android open source app.
What is the purpose of the healthscience.network? To build a protocol to allow the world to create the best oracle on healthspan and longevity. The video below uses the DIY Healthscience toolkit that allows peers to produce personalised network experiment dashboards and create network experiments that look into the future.
A look at the DIY HealthScience Toolkit with a mixture of real functionality available now and a look ahead to LifestyleWorld Dashboards and Gnatt/Calendar Time lines.
The right information presented how any peer likes with a guarantee of trust in all the data and computations undertaken to produce them. That is the goal. It is also important to remember these dashboards are collaboratively built by the network, there is no central authority dictating what is included. The video takes a look at the Lifestyle Hex Dashboard where parts of a peers life is represented graphically e.g. swimming. Click on a hex to show a swimming dashboard bringing together information presented how each peer likes it to be. We all live in the context of our local environment, this geography based dashboard brings together maps, river level charts and air quality. Of course each peer and their lifestyle are not separate and many network experiments will be setup to investigate connections between the two, e.g. does the air temperature inside or outside or both, effect how well a peer sleeps? …
This is a re-post of a healthscience newsletter (all past newsletters )
I was going to re-post a link to the talk I gave at https://www.skillsmatter.com/ on creating a digital immune system for the world back in 2016. Complete with a prototype. Many learnings. 1) I just found out right now that entity went under so the video has gone (maybe to reappear), we promise this will not happen on a https://safenetwork.org/ 2) Many have seen the need to work on creating a digital immune system, technologists to environmentalist etc. but we have failed to deliver. Why is this? From a crypto point of view, I think there is a prevailing logic that replacing the current financial system with a new one is the first stage of transition. I think this is flawed. The transition needs to be from a monetary system to a post-monetary system. Information is where we are at technologically, to realise this potential we need to release ourselves from money or economic rationality that worked for the past. This thinking explains clearly why very little investment of attention and money has focused on building out a digital immune system, it promises no economic or monetary return but something much more practical and valuable. …
NXP a networked-self experiment. Each NXP has a shell where modules can be joined together. What is a module? The network experiment question being asked? The data used (devices, data type, tidy up, categories etc), the computation being used to create results e.g. a daily average to a machine learning model, Controls: does the experiment lend itself to blinding, sampling technique etc?, Scientific review: what methods is used n=1, statistics etc., does the experiment involve an intervention, lifestyle, food, meditation to pharmaceutical drugs or plants? and what visualisation is being presented? Table, chart or simulation. …
